A Study of Autumnal Hues

We often imagine autumn as a vibrant explosion of colors, but this is a romanticized view. With this series, I explore that ideal using film photography’s color fidelity. Over eight years, I closely observed an American Sweetgum tree at the Arboretum of Aubonne Valley, patiently awaiting the perfect hues. Finally, in October 2015, ideal conditions emerged: a rainy summer gave way to crisp, cool days, setting the stage for its transformation. Its leaves unfolded in a breathtaking spectrum of greens, yellows, oranges, and reds against a dazzling blue sky, which the film flawlessly captured without manipulation, preserving autumn’s pure magic. When displayed together, these photographs will infuse your interior with the warmth and vibrancy of this romantic season.
