Pristine Alpine River

The Arve River, born from Alpine glaciers in the Chamonix Valley, takes on captivating grey-blue hues during the winter months. These shifting shades of grey and blue owe their depth to glacial flour, created by the relentless grinding of ice against rock. Drawn to these mesmerizing tones, I ventured close to the river’s source to capture its purest colors, faithfully rendered through chromogenic film photography. Inspired by the late works of J.M.W. Turner—where form seamlessly dissolves into color—I sought abstraction, focusing primarily on this striking chromatic richness. These photographs transcend mere representation; their deep, icy blues evoke the very essence of the Alps—a landscape sculpted by glaciers and suffused with tranquility. Large-format prints amplify these tones, fostering a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
